About Timebank San Diego

Timebank San Diego is a community where neighbors exchange time and skills instead of money. It’s simple: give an hour, get an hour. When you volunteer your time helping another member, you earn one Time Bank SD Credit (TBC). Every hour is valued equally, no matter the service, one hour always equals one TBC.

With your credits, you can “spend” them to receive services from other members, or save them for later use. Exchanges can be one-on-one, in groups, or in partnership with local nonprofits. Common exchanges include gardening, tutoring, arts and crafts, food sharing, walking buddies, organizing help, and much more.

Members also form interest groups where they share skills, support one another, and earn credits together. Groups can be private or open to the wider community. You choose the level of participation that fits you best.

By joining Timebank SD, you become part of a reciprocal economy that values everyone’s time equally. Timebank SD is a great way to meet people in your neighborhood while sharing skills you already have. Together, we’re building stronger connections, reducing isolation, and creating a more resilient San Diego, one hour at a time.

All too often we think of community in terms of being with folks like ourselves: the same class, same race, same ethnicity, same social standing and the like ... I think we need to be wary: we need to work against the danger of evoking something that we don’t challenge ourselves to actually practice.
